Jan Edwards Prize

The Jan Edwards Prize is awarded for the best abstract oral presentation by a registered Australasian Chapter of Sexual Health Medicine (AChSHM) trainee.

The Prize is named in honour of Dr Jan Edwards, the long-serving Executive Secretary of the former Australasian College of Sexual Health Physicians (ACSHP). She served 19 years with the ACSHP and oversaw its transition into the current AChSHM of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians.

The recipient will receive $500 and a certificate.

Australasian Sexual Health and HIV Nurses Association (ASHHNA) Prizes

ASHHNA awards prizes for the best poster by a nurse at both the Australasian Sexual Health Conference and the HIV/AIDS Conference. These awards recognize outstanding contributions to sexual and reproductive health and HIV nursing, with the aim of encouraging innovation in clinical research and practice. Conference delegates must select ‘nurse’ on registration to be eligible.

The Alan Brotherton Prize in HIV Cure Research

Despite transformative changes to the diagnosis and treatment of HIV over the past 30 years, the search for an HIV cure is as relevant now as ever. Australian scientists, clinicians and community members have much to contribute to the search for a cure given our long track record of outstanding research and collaboration. As the focus on HIV cure strategies intensifies, engagement between people living with HIV and those researching and developing an HIV cure must be strong and purposeful.

In the spirit of Alan’s dedication to improving the lives of people living with HIV through partnership and the importance of HIV cure research, a $500 prize for the most outstanding abstract on research related to an HIV cure at the Australasian HIV & AIDS Conference will be offered.

Eligibility

Abstracts from all conference streams accepted for oral or poster presentation at the Joint Australasian HIV & AIDS and Sexual Health Conference: VIRTUAL relating to HIV cure will be considered. As the award is to encourage new and emerging researchers, only presenters less than 10 years post PhD or MSc will be eligible. All community members are eligible.

The Alan Brotherton HIV Cure Prize will be judged by a panel comprising a person living with HIV, a member of the HIV Cure Community Partnership and an expert in cure research.

Sexual Health Society of Victoria Best Poster Awards

A total of three awards will be given for the best poster presentations at the Australasian Sexual Health Conference. This includes two Best Poster Awards by all presenters and one Best Student Poster Award by a student presenter. The award winner will receive a certificate and one-year SHSoV free membership.

Eligibility

All accepted abstracts for poster presentation at the 2020 Australasian Sexual Health Conference are eligible.

To be eligible for the Best Student Poster Award, the presenter must be a current undergraduate or postgraduate student and register as “Students” at the conference. Both part-time and full-time students are eligible.
